Pixel Manager for WooCommerce sends the visits and sales of your shop to Google Ads, Google Analytics, Meta, Microsoft Ads and other platforms. Since Cookie Rocks Pro 2.9.14, Cookie Rocks reads three of its settings and decides from them whether Pixel Manager may follow the visitor’s choice by itself.
Pixel Manager reads the visitor’s choice through WP Consent API. Cookie Rocks Pro passes the choice to WP Consent API as soon as the visitor answers, without a reload.
Set it up in 3 steps
- Install and activate WP Consent API from WordPress.org.
- Open the settings of Pixel Manager. Turn on Explicit Consent. Turn off Google Consent Mode and Microsoft UET Consent Mode. Save. Explicit Consent is also in the free version of Pixel Manager.
- Open Cookie Rocks, Overview. The line about Pixel Manager reads: “Pixel Manager waits for consent (Explicit Consent on, Google and Microsoft Consent Mode off): it follows the visitor’s choice itself, through WP Consent API.”
With these settings, nothing leaves for Google or Microsoft before the choice. In our tests, Pixel Manager sent nothing before the choice, nothing after a refusal, and everything after consent, without a reload.
What Cookie Rocks does with each setting
| Your settings | What Cookie Rocks does |
|---|---|
| WP Consent API active, Explicit Consent on, Google Consent Mode and Microsoft UET Consent Mode off | Pixel Manager is not held. It follows the visitor’s choice itself. |
| Every country your site targets only asks for an opt-out, and Global Privacy Control does not apply there (for example Switzerland, or Canada outside Quebec) | Pixel Manager is not held either, with WP Consent API active. |
| Any other case | Cookie Rocks holds Pixel Manager until the visitor accepts. The Overview says which setting changes this, and why. |
If the Overview says “WP Consent API is not installed”. Pixel Manager is set to wait for consent, but it cannot read the choice. Cookie Rocks keeps holding it until the visitor accepts. Install WP Consent API, then open the Overview again.
What the Overview says when Pixel Manager is held
Each message names the setting at fault and ends with an Open Pixel Manager link.
- Google Consent Mode on: before the visitor chooses, Google receives the page address and an identifier.
- Microsoft UET Consent Mode on: before the visitor chooses, Microsoft receives a page view and a cookie is set.
- Explicit Consent off: Pixel Manager does not wait for the choice.
For a site that targets the European Union or the United Kingdom, the message adds: “The countries your site targets require consent for this.”
For a site that only targets the United States, no consent is needed beforehand. But a refusal or a Global Privacy Control signal must stop the tracking at once, so Cookie Rocks keeps holding Pixel Manager until the visitor accepts, and says so.
Next step: WP Consent API.
