Set up a site aimed at children

← I want to…

Written for Cookie Rocks 2.9.14, checked on 5 November 2026. The current version is 2.11.2: some details may have changed.

This guide is for sites made for children: games, schools, clubs, children’s activities. On such a site, advertising and profiling must stay off, and content from other sites, such as a video, should load only with an adult’s consent.

You need: Cookie Rocks Audit (free) to see which tools your pages load. Cookie Rocks Pro for a banner set up for children.

See what your pages load

  1. Open Cookie Rocks, then Cookies, and click Scan my pages.
  2. In the table, read the Category of each tool. Tools in Marketing or Statistics, apart from videos, maps and social media posts, have no place on a site for children: remove them from the site.
  3. With the Audit alone, look in the settings of your cookie plugin for an option for sites aimed at children.

Set it up with Cookie Rocks Pro

If your site is aimed at children under 13 in the United States… a click is not the verifiable parental consent the COPPA asks for. Link to the video or the map instead of embedding it.

Tip. Cookie Rocks cannot check a visitor’s age or a parent’s identity. It cannot stop tools that set cookies from your server either. Keep the list of tools short, and check it after each new plugin with Scan my pages.

More detail: Consent and Hold YouTube, Vimeo and Google Maps until consent.

Next step: Get a cookie policy that writes itself
