This guide is for owners of a Cookie Rocks Pro key: when a site moves, closes, or when the key comes to its end date.
You need: Cookie Rocks Pro and its key. Everything happens on the Licence page and in your account on cookierocks.com. The free Cookie Rocks Audit needs no key.

Move a key to another site
- On the old site, open Cookie Rocks, then Licence.
- Click Remove the key from this site. The page says “The key was removed from this site. Its place is free for another site.”
- On the new site, install Cookie Rocks Audit and Cookie Rocks Pro. See Adding Cookie Rocks Pro.
- Open Cookie Rocks, then Licence. Paste the key in the Key field and click Activate.
- The page says “Your key is active on this site.” The settings and the updates are open.
If you see… “This key is already used on all the sites it covers.”: remove it from another site first, or choose a larger plan. “This key is not for this site.”: check the site set in your account on cookierocks.com. How many sites a key covers depends on your plan: see Pricing. The address with and without “www” counts as one site, and so do up to 3 of its subdomains.
Renew a key
- Open Licence and read Valid until: it is the end date of your key or of your trial.
- A paid key renews by itself every year, unless you clicked Stop renewal in your account. A trial or a stopped key ends on that date: get a key from your account on cookierocks.com before it. Once the key has ended, the Licence page reads Expired on and shows Renew on cookierocks.com.
- Cookie Rocks Pro checks the key once a day and reads its new end date. If you received a new key, paste it in Another key and click Activate.
There is no extra time after the end date. The day after it, the settings of the banner lock, and so do the updates and support. You can still turn the banner off, choose your policy pages and ask everyone again. The banner, the visitors’ choices, the blocking of trackers and the register of proofs keep working. Your visitors see no difference: the banner looks the same, with no added link. Once the key is renewed, everything opens again, with the settings you had.
Remove a key from a site
- Before you close a site, or delete Cookie Rocks Pro from it, open Licence.
- Click Remove the key from this site. Its place is free for another site.
- Then delete Cookie Rocks Pro from the Plugins page, if you wish. Download your proofs first, on the Proof of consent page: deleting Pro erases the register.
Tip. Deactivating Cookie Rocks Pro does not free its place. Deleting it from the Plugins page does, but the safest is to click Remove the key from this site first: the page then confirms it. If you cannot open the old site any more, sign in to your account on cookierocks.com and click Free this place next to that site. Once all the places of a key have been used, moving it to a domain it never had counts as a change of domain: 3 a year at most. Beyond that, the Licence page says “This key is already used on all the sites it covers.” A Community key stays with its one site: for another site, ask for a new Community key.
Every message of the screen: Licence.
