Cookie consent for WPML
one banner per language
On a WPML site, every page exists in several languages, and so does your privacy policy. The banner should speak the language of the page, and point to the policy in that language.

What WPML puts on your pages
- Language switcher
- Links to the other languages. It loads nothing from outside.
- Browser language redirect
- Sends visitors to the language of their browser and remembers it in a cookie that serves the site itself.
- Translated pages and policies
- One page per language, privacy policy and cookie policy included.
What matters for consent with WPML
One page per language
WPML keeps each translation as a page of its own. A translation of your privacy policy can fall behind the original.
The visitor’s language
A visitor reading in German should see the banner in German, with a link to the German policy.
Language cookies
WPML can set cookies to remember the visitor’s language. They serve the site itself and need no consent.
One domain per language
WPML can put each language in a folder, a subdomain or a domain of its own. Cookies belong to one domain: with a domain per language, the visitor chooses again on each one.
Cookie Rocks with WPML
- Lets you edit the banner texts language by language, from its list of languages.
- Points the banner’s policy link to the translation in the language of the page.

Good to know · Polylang, WPMLPolicy link follows the new address after a Polylang or WPML URL change
When URL settings are saved, Cookie Rocks forgets the stored policy address, so each language links to its own translation. Before 2.4.0 the main language kept the old address. Tested with both.
Seen in our tests, 15 October 2026, Polylang, WPML Polylang 3.8.11, WPML 4.9.2.
Full detail
When Polylang's or WPML's URL settings are saved, Cookie Rocks forgets the stored address of the cookie policy page, so after a change of URL mode (for example from language in a directory to language set from the content) each language links to its own translation at its new address. Before 2.4.0 the link in the main language kept the old address, which Polylang then redirected. Tested with Polylang 3.8.11 and WPML 4.9.2, in French and English.
How we test it
On a live site
We installed Cookie Rocks on a real WordPress site built with it, kept as its owners set it up, and watched what loads before the choice and after it. Its own features had to keep working, such as forms, videos or a checkout.
- WPML 5.2.0, tested on 2 November 2026.

Questions
What if my site uses a language Cookie Rocks does not ship?
The banner shows English until you write its texts in that language, on the Appearance page.
Does a cached page show the right language?
Yes. Each language has its own banner file, so every cached page carries the right one.
Is the choice kept when the visitor switches language?
Yes when your languages are folders of one domain, since the choice is a cookie of that domain. With a separate domain per language, the visitor chooses again on each domain.
Can the banner speak the visitor's language when my site does not have it?
Yes, with the Pro. On the Appearance page, turn on « Show the banner in the visitor’s browser language » (off by default). The banner then uses the browser language among the 54 shipped, even without a version of the site in that language. The cookie and privacy policies still follow the page.
What happens after the 30-day trial?
The banner, your visitors’ choices and your proofs of consent keep working. Without a key, most settings lock, updates and support stop. Take a key at any time and everything opens again.
