Cookie consent for TranslatePress

the banner speaks the page’s language

← Cookie Rocks for your stack

The free TranslatePress sets no cookie and keeps nothing in the browser on visitor pages. It sets the WordPress language from the page address, so a banner that follows WordPress shows in the right language. Automatic translation is the part to mention in your privacy policy.

What TranslatePress adds to your visitors’ browser

No trackers In our test of TranslatePress 3.3.9 on 7 November 2026, the plugin itself added no tracker and no cookie. What you place in your pages with it, such as a video or a map, still counts.

What matters for consent with TranslatePress

Nothing to hold

With default settings, TranslatePress sets no cookie, keeps nothing in the browser’s storage and loads no outside tracker. There is nothing for a banner to wait for.

The banner in the right language

TranslatePress sets the WordPress language from the page address. A banner that follows the WordPress language shows in the language of the page.

Text added after load

On a translated page, TranslatePress looks for a translation of text added after load, such as a banner. To keep an element out of it, use its own exclusion setting or the data-no-translation attribute.

Automatic translation

With automatic translation on, untranslated text is sent from your server to a translation provider, and a visit can trigger it. No banner can hold that: mention it in your privacy policy.

  • Good to know · TranslatePressTranslatePress sends a banner's text to the site to look for a translation

On secondary-language pages, text added after load is sent to the site by Ajax. The data-no-translation attribute or the Exclude from dynamic translation setting skips an element.

Read in its code, 16 October 2026, TranslatePress 3.3.8.

    Full detail

On pages in a secondary language, TranslatePress's trp-translate-dom-changes.js watches the page with a MutationObserver and sends text added after load, such as a consent banner, to the site by Ajax (trp_get_translations_domchanges) to look for a translation. Elements are skipped with the data-no-translation attribute or the Exclude from dynamic translation setting. Its code classes its own inline data script as functional for another consent plugin, so that it is not held.

How we test it

Around each version, with its latest release

Around each Cookie Rocks version, a fresh WordPress installs its latest version from WordPress.org next to Cookie Rocks and runs the same checks. A new version joins the next run on its own.

  • TranslatePress 3.3.9, tested on 7 November 2026.
  • The banner shows, the trackers of the test page wait for consent and load after it, and Cookie Rocks raises no PHP error.
  • Settings of the test: Default settings after activation.
  • Last run: TranslatePress 3.3.9 on 7 November 2026, with WordPress 7.1.3.

Questions

Can the banner speak the visitor's language when my site does not have it?

Yes, with the Pro. On the Appearance page, turn on « Show the banner in the visitor’s browser language » (off by default). The banner then uses the browser language among the 54 shipped, even without a version of the site in that language. The cookie and privacy policies still follow the page.

What happens after the 30-day trial?

The banner, your visitors’ choices and your proofs of consent keep working. Without a key, most settings lock, updates and support stop. Take a key at any time and everything opens again.
