Cookie consent for MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress

forms that set nothing

← Cookie Rocks for your stack

MC4WP adds Mailchimp sign-up forms to your site. The forms set no cookie and keep nothing in the browser: the address goes to Mailchimp from your server when the visitor subscribes. Only its optional site tracking adds a Mailchimp script to every page.

What MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress adds to your visitors’ browser

No trackers In our test of MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress 4.15.0 on 7 November 2026, the plugin itself added no tracker and no cookie. What you place in your pages with it, such as a video or a map, still counts.

What matters for consent with MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress

The form itself asks nothing

A sign-up form from MC4WP stores nothing in the browser. The visitor sends the address on purpose, and your server passes it to Mailchimp.

Site tracking is another matter

With site tracking on, Mailchimp’s script loads on every page, with no setting in MC4WP to wait for consent. It is marketing, so it should wait for the visitor’s choice. Cookie Rocks holds known trackers until consent.

A sign-up can miss its match

After a sign-up, MC4WP tells the Mailchimp script who subscribed only if that script is already running. If the script waits for consent and starts later on the same page, that match is lost. The subscription itself is not.

Works with a page cache

The forms do not rely on a one-time security token, so a cached page still sends them.

What our tests found on MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress

  • Depends on a setting · MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPressMC4WP's tracking pixel loads on every page with no wait for consent

setting “Enable Site Tracking” · by default: off

Off by default. After a sign-up, the email is sent to Mailchimp only if the pixel is already loaded, so it is lost if the pixel is held and accepted later on that page.

Read in its code, 16 October 2026, MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress 4.14.1.

    Full detail

MC4WP's Site Tracking Pixel (off by default) enqueues Mailchimp's script chimpstatic.com/mcjs-connected/js/users/<id>.js (handle mc4wp-mailchimp-site-tracking-pixel, defer) on every public page, with no setting to wait for consent. After a sign-up, an inline footer script calls $mcSite.pixel.api.identify with the subscriber's email only if the pixel is already loaded, so it is lost if the pixel is held and accepted later on the same page.

Questions

Do I need site tracking?

Only if you use Mailchimp’s website features. It is off until you turn it on. Without it, MC4WP adds nothing to consent.

What happens after the 30-day trial?

The banner, your visitors’ choices and your proofs of consent keep working. Without a key, most settings lock, updates and support stop. Take a key at any time and everything opens again.
