Cookie consent for Rank Math SEO
an seo plugin with a google tag
Rank Math sets no cookie for your visitors, but it can install Google Analytics itself. With Install analytics code on, it prints the Google tag on every page, and that tag needs consent. Rank Math sets no consent default of its own: that is the consent plugin’s job.

What Rank Math adds to your visitors’ browser
No trackers In our test of Rank Math SEO 1.0.281 on 7 November 2026, the plugin itself added no tracker and no cookie. What you place in your pages with it, such as a video or a map, still counts.
What Rank Math puts on your pages
- Meta tags and structured data
- Titles, descriptions, social tags and JSON-LD. No script, no cookie.
- The Google tag, if you turn it on
- Install analytics code, in its Analytics settings, prints the Google tag in the page head: Google Analytics. Its cookies need consent under the GDPR.
- A self-hosted Analytics file (PRO)
- Rank Math PRO can serve the Google tag from your own site instead of Google’s.
- Local Business map
- With a Google Maps key and the map turned on, its Local Business block shows Google Maps.
What matters for consent with Rank Math
The Google tag needs consent
With Install analytics code on, Rank Math’s Google tag sets Google Analytics cookies from the first page. Under the GDPR and similar laws, they need consent.
One consent default, set first
Rank Math sends no Consent Mode default. Cookie Rocks sets Google’s default before Rank Math’s tag, and in basic Consent Mode holds the tag until consent.
Self-hosted file, recognised differently
Cookie Rocks recognises the Google tag by its address at Google. A copy served from your own site does not carry that address. Keep Rank Math PRO’s self-hosted Analytics file off if you want the tag held.
Cookieless mode is not consent-free
Rank Math PRO’s cookieless Analytics mode builds a visitor ID from browser and device features. Rank Math itself advises checking its legal status.
No WP Consent API
Rank Math does not read WP Consent API. Consent for its tag goes through Google’s Consent Mode and the holding of the tag.

Rank Math sets no cookie for visitors (its only setcookie is an admin date-range cookie) and does not use the WP Consent API.

Questions
Does Cookie Rocks change Rank Math settings?
No. The two plugins work side by side. Cookie Rocks acts on the Google tag in your pages, not on Rank Math.
Should I turn off Rank Math’s analytics code?
No need. Cookie Rocks handles the tag it prints, like any Google tag in your pages.
Does Rank Math need consent for itself?
Not for its SEO features: they set no cookie for visitors. Only the Google tag and the map do.
What happens after the 30-day trial?
The banner, your visitors’ choices and your proofs of consent keep working. Without a key, most settings lock, updates and support stop. Take a key at any time and everything opens again.
