← Cookie Rocks for your stack

MonsterInsights prints the Google tag at the top of your pages. The free version sets no consent default and does not read WP Consent API. Cookie Rocks holds the tag until the visitor agrees.

By MonsterInsights · monsterinsights.com · WordPress.org

Tested with MonsterInsights 11.3: Google’s tag waits for Accept, then loads and sends the visit. Nothing is sent after a refusal. Cookie Rocks 2.10.0, 6 November 2026

What MonsterInsights adds to your visitors’ browser

Trackers it loads

Cookies seen in our test

_ga_<ID>_ga

Also from your server GA4 Measurement Protocol, only on Pretty Links redirects. A banner holds what runs in the visitor’s browser. What MonsterInsights sends from your server is set in MonsterInsights itself.

What matters for consent with MonsterInsights

No consent of its own

MonsterInsights prints the Google tag early in the head, with no Consent Mode default. Click tracking on links, downloads, email and phone links goes through the same tag.

Held until the choice

Cookie Rocks holds the tag before the choice and loads it after Accept all, without a reload. Google Analytics then sets its cookies.

Check it logged out

Administrators and editors get no tag by default. Look at your site logged out, or in a private window, to see what visitors get.

Short links from the server

With Pretty Links, each short-link redirect is reported to Google Analytics from your server, with ad personalization granted by default. A cookie banner cannot block it.

Cookie Rocks with MonsterInsights

  • Holds the scripts it adds to your pages, such as tags, pixels or a chat, until the visitor consents. In advanced Consent Mode, Google’s tags load with consent denied instead.

What our tests found on MonsterInsights

  • Depends on a setting · MonsterInsightsA MonsterInsights filter is enough to hold its tags without rewriting the page

Its attributes filter covers all three head tags. They wait, run after Accept and stay held after Refuse.

Seen in our tests, 5 November 2026, MonsterInsights 11.3.0.

    Full detail

MonsterInsights has no script handle, but its filter monsterinsights_tracking_analytics_script_attributes sets the attributes of all three tags in the head. With type text/plain and a statistics category set through this filter, Cookie Rocks 2.10.0 held the three tags with no HTML rewriting, ran them after Accept and kept them held after Refuse. MonsterInsights does not read WP Consent API.

  • Good to know · MonsterInsightsCookie Rocks holds the MonsterInsights tag until Accept all

On a test WordPress with MonsterInsights and a manual dummy GA4 ID (no Google account), Cookie Rocks holds gtag.js before the choice and loads it after Accept all, without a reload; Google Analytics then sets _ga and _ga_<ID>.

Seen in our tests, 17 October 2026, MonsterInsights 11.3.0.

  • Good to know · MonsterInsightsMonsterInsights tracks link clicks and downloads by default

Outbound links, downloads, mailto and tel links are tracked through the same tag. A click writes a temporary _gd<timestamp> cookie and deletes it at once. IP anonymization has no effect with GA4.

Read in its code, 16 October 2026, MonsterInsights 11.3.0.

    Full detail

MonsterInsights tracks outbound links, downloads (doc, pdf, ppt, zip, xls, docx, pptx, xlsx), mailto, tel and /go/ or /recommend/ links by default through the same tag. On a tracked click its script writes a temporary _gd<timestamp> cookie and deletes it at once to find the root domain. gaOptout() sets ga-disable-<G-ID> until 2099. IP anonymization is off by default and has no effect with GA4.

How we test it

Around each version, with its latest release

Around each Cookie Rocks version, a fresh WordPress installs its latest version from WordPress.org next to Cookie Rocks and runs the same checks. A new version joins the next run on its own.

  • MonsterInsights 11.3.0, tested on 7 November 2026.
  • The banner shows, the trackers of the test page wait for consent and load after it, and Cookie Rocks raises no PHP error.
  • Its own tags, set with a test ID, do not load before the choice and load after “Accept all”.
  • Settings of the test: Manual Google Analytics 4 ID (test value), no Google account connected.
  • Last run: MonsterInsights 11.3.0 on 7 November 2026, with WordPress 7.1.3.

Questions

MonsterInsights says I have no consent plugin. Why?

Its admin check only knows a short fixed list of consent plugins. It may suggest installing another one while your consent plugin is active.

What happens after the 30-day trial?

The banner, your visitors’ choices and your proofs of consent keep working. Without a key, most settings lock, updates and support stop. Take a key at any time and everything opens again.

For MonsterInsights users

Keep your reports, hold the tag.

monsterinsights stays on

Every feature of the complete plugin for 30 days, no card. MonsterInsights keeps working as it does today.

  • During the trial: everything, including the full settings and the scans
  • After 30 days without a key: the banner, your visitors’ choices and your proofs of consent keep working
  • What waits for a key: most settings, updates and support
