Cookie consent for Chaty
the buttons stay
Chaty adds chat buttons for WhatsApp, Messenger, phone and more. They are a way to reach you, not a tracker: nothing goes to another company until the visitor clicks. Chaty remembers in the browser which buttons were shown and opened.

What Chaty adds to your visitors’ browser
No trackers In our test of Chaty 3.6.5 on 7 November 2026, the plugin itself added no tracker and no cookie. What you place in your pages with it, such as a video or a map, still counts.
What matters for consent with Chaty
Button state
Chaty notes whether the widget was opened, closed or shown on exit, so it does not keep opening for the same visitor.
Stored in the browser
Chaty sets no cookie. It writes small local storage keys, some as soon as the buttons show. They hold no identifier, and Cookie Rocks lists them in the cookie policy.
The chat apps behind the buttons
A click opens WhatsApp, Messenger or another app. What happens there follows that app's own rules. See WhatsApp buttons.
What our tests found on Chaty
Set before the choice · ChatyChaty's country targeting asks Cloudflare, only in its paid version
Free version: no country request. Paid country targeting: a browser request to Cloudflare, country kept in chaty_user_country_code.
Read in its code, 6 November 2026, Chaty 3.6.4.
Full detail
The free Chaty 3.6.4 always sets has_countries to 0, so it makes no country request. Its script still holds the code used when a widget targets countries, a paid feature: it asks www.cloudflare.com/cdn-cgi/trace from the visitor's browser, which gives Cloudflare the visitor's IP address, and keeps the country code in session storage (chaty_user_country_code), or in local storage for 365 days without session storage. The paid path was read in the code, not tested.
Set before the choice · ChatyChaty loads a chosen widget font from Google, partly by script
A chosen widget font comes from Google, with links added at run time by the script.
Read in its code, 6 November 2026, Chaty 3.6.4.
Full detail
When the widget font (option cht_widget_font) is not one of Chaty's system fonts (System Stack, Arial, Tahoma, Verdana, Helvetica, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS, Georgia), Chaty loads it from fonts.googleapis.com: the server adds a stylesheet (custom-google-fonts), and the widget script also adds preload and stylesheet links to the head at run time. The links added by the script are not in the page markup.
Good to know · ChatyChaty 3.6.4 uses local storage, set as soon as the buttons show
No cookie. Local storage on display: chatyWidget_<id> (7 days), activechatyWidgets (1 day). No identifier; no third party before a click.
Seen in our tests, 6 November 2026, Chaty 3.6.4.
Full detail
Chaty 3.6.4 (free) sets no cookie. On a plain display, with no click, it writes two local storage keys: chatyWidget_<id> (which buttons were shown or clicked, with dates, 7 days) and activechatyWidgets (the widgets seen, 1 day). A click on the blur overlay adds hide-bg-blur-effect (365 days). No identifier of the visitor is stored. Nothing is sent to a third party until the visitor clicks a channel, unless a Google font is chosen.
How we test it
Around each version, with its latest release
Around each Cookie Rocks version, a fresh WordPress installs its latest version from WordPress.org next to Cookie Rocks and runs the same checks. A new version joins the next run on its own.
- Chaty 3.6.5, tested on 7 November 2026.
- The banner shows, the trackers of the test page wait for consent and load after it, and Cookie Rocks raises no PHP error.
- Settings of the test: Default settings after activation.
- Last run: Chaty 3.6.5 on 7 November 2026, with WordPress 7.1.3.

Questions
Do the buttons still show when a visitor refuses?
Yes. The buttons stay, so every visitor can reach you. If you use country targeting or a Google font, Cookie Rocks holds the widget until the visitor accepts.
What happens after the 30-day trial?
The banner, your visitors’ choices and your proofs of consent keep working. Without a key, most settings lock, updates and support stop. Take a key at any time and everything opens again.
